Potential Energy |
Potential energy is also called gravitational potential energy,
the formula is
P.E = mgh
while
P.E = potential energy in joules.
m = mass in kg.
g = gravitational field, where 1 g = 9.80665 m/s².
h = height in meters.
Example
For example, if the mass of the object is 5000g (5 kg), the gravitational field of the object is 2 g,
and the height of the object is 2 meters.
The potential energy is calculated as:
PE = 5 kg x 2 x 9.80665 m/s² x 2 meters
=196.133 Joules
